The village of Merignac (code postal 16200) is located in southwest France in the Charente. The village is a just a few kilometers from the riverside town of Jarnac, birth place of Francois Mitterrand, and only a short drive to Cognac and Angouleme. Merignac is very much sought after because of its quiet beauty, such as the tiny river “La Guirlande” which winds its way through its center, and its abundance of amenities: bakery, butcher shop, post office, pharmacy, mini-mart and medical clinic. Its proximity to route 141 makes an easy commute for those preferring to live in a smaller place while working in the neighboring towns of Cognac and Angouleme. Both Cognac and Angouleme are rich in history; Cognac being home to the well-known cognac houses as well as to the renaissance king Francois Premier. Angouleme more recently is known for its museum of animated cartoons. Internet service, rapidly becoming a prerequisite for those who must have dependable on-line capability, is excellent. From Merignac, you are within easy reach–an hour to one and one half–to the beautiful cities of Bordeaux and La Rochelle as well the porcelain factories of Limoges, just to mention a few.
